The Philadelphia Phillies Prospects + Organizational Depth Charts For All Affiliates – 2014 (MLB + MiLB)

Among Amaro's staff of scouts and underlings, there must be some level of discomfort because no group of baseball men this large who evaluate talent for a living can make that many mistakes on a professional level. Unless, of course, these men are afraid to go against Amaro's will. If that's the case, it will be up to Phillies President and team ownership to hear that the citizens of Philadelphia have already figured out that the emperor has no clothes. It's time for Amaro to go. It won't happen soon enough, and with Montgomery's latest proclamation, this club will set themselves back for a few more years by not selling off some players in a futile season.

TRADE DEADLINE CHAT/Build your system by trading veterans and regroup for 2015.

I have a newsflash for David Montomery (President, part -owner of the Phillies), your fanbase already hates the team right now, and it is not like you won’t spend money on the club in 2015.

The Boston Red Sox were smart enough to realize that 2012 was a lost season.  Instead of riding it out, they made huge changes to the roster.

Deals that led to numerous Free Agent signings in that winter, that helped them win the 2013 World Series..

A lot of the trades they did were based on the team dumping payroll, becoming younger, and also not having lengthy contracts plaguing their franchises for many years to come.

The “Phigtins” are 8.5 Games the NL East leading Braves, and 8 behind the playoff bar, but here is the problem….

a chase utley 2

There are 8 teams ahead of them in the NL vying for 2 Wild Card positions.

What is worse for the franchise is that the offense has been there.  Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, Ryan Howard and Marlon Byrd are hitting about as well as they could have this season.

It has been the pitching that has left them struggling.  Cliff Lee has had elbow problems, and been out since May.19th.

A.J. Burnett has been battling groin issues all year, and has etched out a decent campaign with a 3.89 ERA, but he may break down in the 2nd half.

Domonic Brown hasn’t hit a lick since the ALL – Star Game in 2013, and even spare OF Darin Ruf has battled injury all year.

It is time to cut bait on this club and re-stock the Minor League System through some trades.

If Cliff Lee was pitching like a Cy Young candidate, I might even concede a punchers chance, but he is on the DL.

Hopefully the LHP comes back healthy next year.

I wouldn’t trade Utley, and you probably can’t trade Howard, but Ruiz, Rollins, Byrd, Jonathan Papelbon and Burnett should all be placed up for auction.

Use the money in the offseason to bring in a couple of Free Agents.

Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, Ervin Santana, James Shields, Mike Morse, Pablo Sandoval, Nelson Cruz, J.J. Hardy, Michael Cuddyer and Seth Smith will be available just to name a few.

Save a few dollars in 2014, to add to the pile in 2015.  Even with a big expenditure or 2, the club will still remain under the $189 MIL Luxury Tax Threshold.

Part with your old veterans down the stretch, build around Cole Hamels, and let your fanbase know your intentions.  The majority will believe in the same philosophy.

Jeff Kleiner:  “I have been a sports fan since the first Baseball game I went to at Comisky Park in Chicago in 1959, when baseball for me turned from black and white to color.

I have attended or watched thousands of games, always paying attention to statistics, rosters and salaries of all professional sports.

Luckily I had the advantage of watching WGN TV and seeing hundreds of games in the 60’s. Collecting Baseball Cards and then later dealing them gave me an extra sense of the sport, both good and bad.”
